Land of Cockaigne, after 1570(?)Attributed to Pieter van der Heyden after Pieter Bruegel the Elder (Netherlands, active by 1551, died 1569)Engraving; first state of two; 8 ¼ x 10 7/8 in. (20.8 x 27.6 cm)

From this credit line we can say that the artist was a male who was born in the Netherlands and was alive for the growing of the first new world colony, St. Augustine. He died before many other trips to the new world though. This painting reflects the time because in the back left corner there is a soldier wearing arm,or typical of the time.

I believe this a fine example of formalism because of the bold lines and shapes. This painting uses warm colors to its advantage but still dosen't appear to bright. This painting shows great shape and uses many odd shapes.

Marcus Willis (Australian), 1972-, The Paul Juraszek monolith (after Marcus Gheeraerts), 2006, oil on linen image, 265 x 195 cm

This painting created in the last few years and is a remake and average size. We also know that Marcus was not alive for the debut of the painting because it was painted somewhere in the life of Marcus Gheeraerts which was 1562–1635.
I think this painting is a fine example of emotionalism. It takes full advantage of cool colors giving the painting a very dark feel. It also is a fine example of texture because you feel as if you could reach out and fell the sandy dirt.

Study after Velazquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X
Francis Bacon, 1953
Oil on canvas
153 × 118 cm, 60 × 46 in
Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, Iowa

We know that this artist was born in 1909 and died in 1992 based on this we know he lived through world war 1 and 2. He also lived in England most of his life so he probably experienced a bombing. Other things he lived through were the sinking of the titanic, the first journey to the north and south pole, the debut of both star wars and James bond and The cold war.

I think it is a fine example of emotionalism. I believe the interesting use of space which causes the pope to appear to be floating in space but also sitting on a platform. I also believe that he used lines to create a person which seems complicated. I also believed he maneged to create a dark painting with warm colors.

Christina's World, Andrew Wyeth, 1948, Tempera, 32 1/4" x 47 3/4"
The Museum of Modern Art, New York
Andrew was born in 1917 and experinced world war 2. He learned to paint from his father and mother who home schooled him. He has art in his family from his father who was a famous illastartor that illastrated for magizines cartoons and even for national geographic.

THis painting is a fine example of emotionalism. He uses a good example of shape as he draws your eyes to the girl. His use of line is great and you can see where the yard begins and ends.I think this painting gives you a whole bunch of strong emotions

Ivan Aivazovsky. Meeting of the Brig Mercury with the Russian Squadron After the Defeat of Two Turkish Battleships. 1848. Oil on canvas. The Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Ivan was had always loved marine landscaping ever since he took a landscape class as a child. At the point in time he had just painted five paintings portraying famous russian battles. This being one of them.

This painting has an interesting use of space. It's focal point is very small and off center. I belive this is imatationilism. Another thing that is very promenant is his use of cool colors and how they let the slight bit of warm colors stand out. He also did a good job with texture. I feel as though I could almost touch the water and feel the wet on my hands.
